Southern California Struck By 4.4-Magnitude Earthquake
Earthquake Data Center Reports Light Magnitude Quake
According to the United States Geological Survey, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck Southern California on Monday, January 1, 2023. The quake occurred at 10:35 a.m. PST, and was located about 12 miles (19 kilometers) east-northeast of Ridgecrest in Kern County.
No Reports of Damage or Injuries
There have been no reports of damage or injuries as a result of the earthquake. However, the quake was felt throughout the region, including in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties.
Aftershocks Possible
Geologists are warning that aftershocks are possible in the coming days or weeks. Residents are advised to be prepared for additional shaking and to take precautions, such as securing loose objects and having an emergency plan in place.
