In his final Bundesliga 2 game for Cottbus, Berhalter scored a penalty in a 3-1 win over the team he would join later in the summer of 2006, 1860 Munich. There, he was named captain and stayed for two and a half years before moving to Crystal Palace and then back to Germany with Energie Cottbus.

When Gregg Berhalter took over as US Men's national team head coach five and a half years ago, the program was still fighting to emerge. His firing comes after the team's disappointing performance in the Copa America.
